   Dr. J. Lamah Walker

     J. Lamah Walker, was a graduate of the University of Miami (B.A. in Psychology & Religion) and Georgia State University (B.A. in Sociology/Criminology), received his M.Ed. from West Texas State University in Community Counseling and then went on to earn his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in the Administration of Higher Education. While at the University of Oklahoma, he was honored with the the bestowal of the the Robert E. Ohm Dissertation Assistance Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship as an advanced graduate student in the field of higher education and general administration. He last served as a psychotherapist at the Student Health Center at the University of New Mexico. Outside those protective confines of that academic ivory tower, Lamah has been a general contractor and real estate broker in New Mexico for some thirty years and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel at the age of nineteen in his family’s inter-denominational Christian church; New Age Church of Truth. Lamah is beyond any reasonable doubt a modern Renaissance Man who dramatically illustrates that old adage that, "Life makes philosophers of us all."

RENAISSANCE MAN 2010

... about me

Welcome to my very own personal web space on the World Wide Web! I'm so delighted that you have invested some of your precious time to drop in. You should be able to discover some intriguing facts about my unusual life and my rather broad range of interests. I've also included links to each of my own uniquely created Web sites, where you will aptly discover all about my modest existence on this planet earth and some of the various experiences and events that have fueled my passions. At the end of this first page are some additional links to other pages of this homepage where you will have some additional pictures of me and my surroundings. And PLEASE feel free to share this personal web site with others.

THIS DEVELOPING AND EVER-CHANGING MAN: It is said that any picture is supposed to be worth some 1000 words, but fortunately this recent and certainly static photo doesn't have that innate ability to actually speak. And, if this photo of me ever did start speaking, I would imagine that you couldn't possibly limit me to just a simple thousand words; there's just too much to be said about me and the most fortunate life that I have experienced! I'm a true homebody, sign of the crab, Cancer, by the date of my timely birth, bordering on the sign of that gregarious lion, Leo--July 21, 1942. I then grew to a modest height of 5'9" and presently weighing in at some 148 pounds of sometimes passionate flesh. Deep-blue eyes that should have aptly turned brown by now except for my loving and generous nature. I recently solved the enigma of my thin blonde hair (ever since high school) that was also very slowly receding by simply shaving it all completely off. I'm so very thankful for having most of my affectionate friends agree that the new barren look is a resounding improvement. I have parked this fine vintage package (sometimes just an old wreck!) some seventeen years ago in a beautiful home that I inspirationally designed and built with my own masculine and often calloused hands (I've been one of those blue-collar licensed building contractors since I was nineteen years old!). This humble estate can be found just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico in the eastern foothills of the Sandia Mountains at a 7000 ft. elevation. I even have a small and ever expanding grove of beautiful aspens that I planted in the back yard where there is a fully-automated greenhouse full of awarded orchids, mostly cool-growing Odontoglossums. There is also another greenhouse that has recently been converted into a laboratory for the sowing of microscopic orchid seeds. Visit SanDamianoOrchids.html and you will be able to view all of the orchids that are used in the hybridization of new varieties.

THE RENAISSANCE MAN, BUT ONLY BY DEFAULT! Adventures in life and being born under that deep-water sign of Cancer are attributable for what I have so naturally enjoyed much of my life --- anything to do with that most essential of all natural elements, WATER. At the very earliest age I started collecting seashells from the Atlantic shores of Broward County (Pompano Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida) as well as saltwater fishing which was lovingly introduced to me by my maternal grandmother, Jessie Eugenia Slaughter. Besides enjoying swimming in the warm surfs of the southern east coast Florida, I later took up both water-skiing and scuba-diving (PADI certified). In New Mexico when that abundant water that fell from the winter skies became cold enough to turn to snow, I redirected that passion for involvement with H2O to downhill skiing both at home and in the lower Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I would love to continue any of these outdoor endeavors with the company of a loving partner as well as discovering new frontiers that we could both explore and enjoy together.... One could easily conclude that expanding my intellect was just another of my life's adventures having earned four college degrees including that final and most arduous accomplishment of a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. In any case, I still prefer to be addressed as simply "Lamah" and only unwillingly employ that sometimes pretentious title of "Dr." as some sort of acquired 'status' whenever those sometimes annoying social circumstances present themselves. Besides the life-long cultivation of the mind, I have always loved the challenge of working with my hands and getting them quite dirty with an equal amount of passion. In addition to having designed and built my own unique residence, I also designed and built two modest-sized state-of-the-art greenhouses, where I enjoy one of my latest (actually a return to a childhood discovery!) and greatest of all passions, that of bringing pleasure to all of my friends and neighbors by sharing the infinite variety and beauty of nature's most spectacular of all flowers, the orchids. I recently converted one of those greenhouses into a laboratory for the cultivation of microscopic orchid seeds.

MY OWN PERSONAL ENCOUNTERS WITH SPIRITUAL SLAVERY: In this otherwise marvelous Garden of Eden, where we are all most apt to be unwillingly enslaved to something or someone, I have had the very good fortune to experience a number of life's more challenging endeavors without ever being unduly or permanently entrapped in any given occupation, religion or taken with any particular set of ideologies. Above all, I have certainly been that consummate academic student in the relentless and often trying search for the TRUTH as well as a credit/character investigator, retail salesman, waiter, ordained minister, real estate broker, general contractor for both residential and commercial projects, psychotherapist, volunteer, writer, survivor, victim, crusader and in general, a philosopher of life. I don't believe that there is much more for me to personally experience except the self-imposed desire and/or obligation of the sharing the essence of all of this living for the possible benefit of my good neighbors in the hope that their own tedious search for the truth is somehow positively augmented, hopefully from our mutual sharing and exchanging, no matter how brief our encounters with one another. I have always felt that I am, in deed, my brother's keeper and should always attempt to share the TRUTH; I'm just not responsible for their ultimate salvation! I would hope to eventually accomplish this rather lofty goal through the use of the written word. I have never wanted to write a book until these latter days of my life because I had always believed that whatever needed to have been said was probably already recorded somewhere, BUT I have come to understand that each generation has its own voice and I would hope to become one of those voices. The next project that I have in mind is a book entitled "An Interview with Jesus in the Hot Tub" and this will be aptly followed by another proposed book entitled, "The Age of Reality." The truth of the matter is that we need to move on from the old mythologies that have mostly been employed to spiritually enslave all of us. The ultimate plan for our salvation was prophetically given to us in those powerful words, "Ye shall know the truth, and that truth shall set you free...." It is now time for that reality to finally manifest itself without any continuing oppression from those who have so successfully managed to keep mankind living in utter ignorance and darkness. I consider myself but one of many voices that will attempt to usher in this AGE OF REALITY. In the meantime I want to pay more attention to my own personal needs and at the very top of the list is that passionate desire to share this bit of the Garden of Eden and all that I have become with a loving partner that can appreciate the rewards of hard labor and the presence of a loving heart.
